The beautiful waterfront of the Taj Gateway played host to the city final of Tata Crucible as teams from across industries battled with each other on a very balanced prelim that Pickbrain had in store for the Kochi teams. The six finalists who made it were:

  • FACT: Anil Raghavan and Nandakumar
  • Malayala Manorama: Arun Thomas and Nitin Suresh
  • Defence Accounts (Indian Navy): Shibin Azad and Anil Kumar
  • Aries Group: Shyam and Arun
  • Kraft Labs Technologies: Rajan and Arun
  • Vodafone: Jai Mohan and Ms.Rashmi Antony

The final was an absorbing battle that witnessed teams start off with a burst of negatives and as sanity set in the duo from Defence Accounts of the Indian Navy did well to get into the lead and soon enough the experienced duo from Malayala Manorama caught up to set up an interesting battle.

As the quiz progressed the Kraft Labs team also came close with good answers but could not sustain the momentum. The battle clearly was then between the Navy duo and Malayala Manorama with both edging each other out of the lead frequently.

It all went down to the last 3 questions when Malayala Manorama took a chance a cracked a ‘bronze’ to get into the lead by a whisker of 10 points and then held on to it over the last two questions as a valiant effort by the Naval accounts team could not earn them their first victory but they sure won the hearts of the entire audience. The seasoned duo from Malayala Manorama marched into the zonal round yet again as champions.

The guest of honour, Mr.Sudheer Warrior, Vice President and Head of TCS Kochi aptly summarised the forum by observing that “For Indians the world means the world, while for many nations the world means their country. This enables Indian to have knowledge about all countries and proves to be an edge”.
