Excitement and Anticipation filled the air as teams from across the Eastern Costal regions of India converged at Visakhapatnam for the debut of Tata Crucible here. Close to a 100 teams for an inaugural edition of the quiz certainly meant a lot of future for the quiz here. A quick prelim of 20 questions led to the final.
The first final ever in the city started with a lot of buzz as teams showed great character to get started quickly and measure up to the posers of the quizmaster. As the rounds progressed four teams were battling with each other, the three Gitam teams and Berhampur Univ.
As the buzzers started to play a role Berhampur University got ahead and held a lead for a couple of rounds with Gitam University (Premchand and Rajgopal) right behind. Andhra University lost ground but came back strongly to regain the same, but could not progress to threaten the leaders. In the meantime, it was one small error in the final round resulting in Berhampur losing five points and Gitam Univ. forcing a tie breaker. In a tense series of questions that followed, Gitam University edged past the Berhampur duo to emerge the first ever champions at Vizag.
Mr. Mahipal Singh, the guest of honour and GM of Taj Gateway, appreciated the teams for a great display of knowledge and told them how “knowledge improves and man profits when he taxes his brain”, further urging them to keep the learning curve alive.
