Match five at Cochin for the 2019 Tata Crucible for campuses was hosted at the SCMS campus with close to 400 students taking the prelim. It was a shade easier than Calicut, as the teams put it, while the excitement seemed way higher here. The super over saw teams from all around Kochi make it on stage.

Super Over

  • St. Thomas Pala :Akash and Naveen Babu
  • SCMS School of Business :Ms. Neethu and George Bosco
  • GEC Trissur :Navaneeth and Athul Unnikrishnan
  • NUALS :Ms. Nazreen and Ms. Anita Babu
  • St. Alberts College :Ms. Denita and Ajay Rai
  • NUALS :Steven and Jitesh

In the super over most teams scored and it was on a tiebreaker that NUALS made it with St. Alberts, underlining the closeness of the contest at Kochi.

THE TOP SIX (FINALISTS)

  • St. Alberts College :Anand and Sanjit Kumar
  • ICAI Kottayam :Vineet J and Joshin Joy
  • Govt Law College :Carol Abraham and Albin Thomas
  • CUSAT :Rithwik and Jis Sebastian
  • St. Alberts College :Ms. Denita and Ajay Rai
  • NUALS :Steven and Jitesh

The final saw a pitched battle between all teams with Ms. Denita and Ajay doing very well but their reluctance to play their answers at a higher value than what they did cost them dearly. On the other hand, the CUSAT duo played a better strategy despite losing ground early on and struggling to find form, to make a comeback and win the game on the back of some high-value hits.

The performance of the law college teams was appreciated by noted quizmaster Pickbrain and the senior guests present. The audience also had legendary Kerala quizzer Anil Raghavan present with the first ever Tata Crucible corporate champion, Ramdas also gracing the occasion.

The guest of honour Dr. Indu Nair, Director, SCMS Group of Institutions, gave away the prizes and advised the audience to build a good reading habit to be able to achieve more in this information age.
